Philadelphia Union: GFX Package

Logo Loop - Mainboard

The Philadelphia Union graphics package blends Revolutionary War–era, 1776-inspired aesthetics with a bold, modern sports design to energize and engage fans. Drawing on the iconic “Join, or Die” snake popularized by Benjamin Franklin, the visuals use torn-paper textures and historic Philadelphia imagery such as Independence Hall to symbolize how separate parts unite to form a stronger whole, reflecting the team’s identity and name. Since we had animated signatures of each player, we placed their signature amongst the signatures on the Declaration of Independence during the playerID sequence. Cool details like these made this project really fun to bring to life and connected well to their new 1776 kit design.

My Role:
Lead Motion Designer

  • Interacted with the Union design team to align on their vision for creative and gameday experience

  • Directed styleframes by taking their new 1776 inspired jersey and expanding on the creative direction with historic elements that aligned with their campaign

  • Guided the set up of Suburu Park’s screen layout to aid with understanding venue specs and create optimal designs

  • Animated key prompts to set motion theory, pacing and texture use (PlayerID, MatchupID)

  • Engineered the foundation of the advanced rigging required to make our prompts editable

  • Oversaw additional animators by providing feedback and direction on their animations (Logo Loop, Noise Meter, Goal, GoalID, Union Win)

Select Prompts

PlayerID - Mainboard (M1)

PlayerID - Ae Viewport (Mainboard M4)

For each player on their 27-man roster, we engineered a fully customized playerID sequence built with 7 different inputs spanning across name, number, animated signature, and multiple video shots.

MatchupID - Mainboard

For each game on the schedule, we built a complex template that could scale across their 7 different inputs like team names, logos, and a potential sponsor placement.

Noise Meter - Mainboard (M4)

GoalID - All Screens

Player-specific goal celebration animations that feature new player footage and a bespoke animation sequence separate from the PlayerID.

Union Win - Mainboard (M4)

Given that I currently live in Philadelphia, this was a very exciting project for me to lead and work on. It’s been super exciting taking friends and family to games this year and to see it all in person makes all the hard work poured into this one pay off even more.
